The spider on the grip

For weeks, almost every time I get down to get my bike, a spider has made a web between the handlebars and the mirror.

Not a small one, but an entire web, endless threads that are intricately tied and do something only she knows.

In order to leave, I break her web every day and let it fly into the air.

After the third time, I started thinking, “well, is she stupid? Does she just sit there and do the same thing knowing that I’ll come and break it for her in the end?”

Without having an answer, every day I ride a self-propelled vehicle that was made with dozens of unknown metal alloys and plastics by German workers, and that burns a fuel that has come from the desert and that we are waiting for to run out, and I drive through the streets of Athens, expecting some recognition for being smart and flexible and belonging to a superior species.
